Our Legacy
Fourteen-year-old Rajiv wanted to become a soldier. But a bankrupt family business, an especially large family, and a highly-developed developed sense of responsibility meant that this dream would never come to fruition. At least, not in the manner that he had dreamt it.
At a stage in life when most students would be preparing for their entrance examinations or cricket matches, this ‘boy’ left his education and went out into the world of men – went out to earn a living. His first business was one of garments. He made a corner of his father’s office into his stitching unit, and he supplied the clothes – himself- to the vendors under Grand Hotel.
By the age of 24 he had traded many different kinds of goods, including sand, stone chips, and copper products. Each endeavour was taken up at the dictates of the moment, and the family was still living from hand to mouth. But with each endeavour the man became more of a businessman. Each challenge hardened the soldier.
Success finally began to happen in 1997, when Rajiv and his elder brother established their own copper melting and casting facility. Looking after production, Rajiv ensured that each order was executed with military precision. Eastern Copper Pvt. Ltd. grew from strength to strength and unit to unit, from capturing the Calcutta market to becoming a renowned exporter of copper semies in East Asia.
However, life’s challenges never stop. Fortunately, neither are soldiers trained to give-up. As Rajiv approached his sixth decade, he found himself challenged to make a mark in an industry unrelated to the one in which he had thirty years of experience. Apart from metals, he would also be manufacturing Paver Blocks. This is where the story of Aravat begins.
In a nation obsessed with start-ups and their amateur entrepreneurs, here is a sixty-year-old running his business with the energy of a fresher and the wisdom of a veteran. To say nothing of the military discipline that comes naturally to him.
Each paver block produced at Aravat is a stepping stone on the road to India’s future. It’s a symbol of all that a man can achieve when his success is rooted in honesty, integrity, and work ethic.
